Edmonton's acreage market spreads across Strathcona, Parkland, Sturgeon and Leduc counties. Sherwood Park, in Strathcona County, is about 15 km from downtown Edmonton; Spruce Grove and Stony Plain in the Parkland area are 34 to 44 km away.
Three of the four counties have adopted new land use bylaws since 2024, so older zoning summaries are often out of date.

Strathcona County (Bylaw 24-2024, in force September 10, 2024): RCL Low Density Country Residential lots of 0.8 ha to 4.5 ha (0.4 ha with piped water and wastewater); RCH lots up to 0.4 ha.
Parkland County (Bylaw 2025-12, May 27, 2025): CR Country Residential sites of 0.8 ha (1.9 ac) to 4.0 ha (9.9 ac).
Leduc County (Bylaw 14-25, June 24, 2025): new CR lots of 1.0 ha (2.5 ac) to 4.0 ha (9.88 ac).
Sturgeon County (Bylaw 1385/17): R1 Country Residential parcels of at least 0.8 ha with a municipal sanitary line or 1 ha without, up to 50 parcels per 64.7 ha.
