Bragg Creek is a hamlet of Rocky View County set in the forest where the Elbow River leaves the foothills. The surrounding acreages trade the open views of Springbank for spruce and pine, river valleys and trails — West Bragg Creek is a Kananaskis Country trailhead area.
At about 1,315 m, the hamlet sits noticeably higher than the city, and the terrain around it varies by roughly 200 m within five kilometres. Winters are more alpine, and the forest is both the attraction and the responsibility.
The Elbow River flooded Bragg Creek in June 2013. Downstream, the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir (SR1), completed in 2025, now diverts Elbow River flood flows to protect communities below it.
Land use and parcels
Most acreages here fall in one of two Rocky View County districts under Land Use Bylaw C-8000-2020: R-RUR Residential, Rural, with a minimum parcel of 1.6 ha (3.95 ac) and room for limited agricultural pursuits, or R-CRD Residential, Country Residential, with a minimum of 0.8 ha (1.98 ac) for smaller parcels. Larger holdings are often in the agricultural districts A-GEN or A-SML (minimum 20.2 ha / 49.92 ac).
